Filmmaker Christopher Aylward takes a moment to explain the delay in the completion of The Hockey Film.

Why isn’t this film done already?

“Naturally, an independent film can have its hurdles. The Hockey Film hasn’t been immune to its share of ups and downs, both in production and currently in the post-production phase.

The ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic has impacted us all. From our personal day-to-day lives, to the livelihood of our jobs, our businesses or those that employ us, we’ve all see impact. That impact spans the globe. The film was in the final stages of completing the last big segment, but adjusted in early 2020 as we realized travel, both domestically and internationally, was grinding to a halt. It resulted in numerous script revisions, segments cancelled or cut, including shelving the telling of other stories for a later date.”

Challenges continued.

“As you may imagine, moving the film away from the visions of what The Hockey Film was supposed to be, into a revised film with a different direction, wasn’t easy. Post-production has taken longer than expected, as changes on the fly are less-than-ideal in any film production. Simply put, getting the pieces to fit, from a puzzle box that now does have all the pieces expected, can present a challenge in how to tell the revised story.

While the final cut of the documentary is nearing 90% completion, we are experiencing a delay in narration. Once the narration component is complete, the final touches in post can be made, the final cut can be finalized and The Hockey Film will be complete.

To my friends, family and those that have followed along and continue to hold interest in this indie documentary, I sincerely apologize for the continued delay. It agonizes me more than you know. It weighs on me daily, but I’m confident that I’ll have this film out of post-production quite soon. Thank you for your support for all these years. It humbles me to have your support.

An update will follow.

Be safe and be kind.”
